Why bother with self growth?

When I started my personal growth journey, my emotional life was a mess.

I just broke up with my boyfriend (who was more like, my child). I found myself single at 29 when everyone my age seemed to have their life together.

So I moved in to an apartment with a friend, with whom I was constantly walking on eggshells.

Oh, and I was also dealing with a long term friendship that was sucking all my energy out.

Before, I used to believe everything wrong in my relationships was my fault. And I would always take blame for anything and everything.

I was the one acting crazy with my partner. I was the selfish one trying to set boundaries with my friend. And I was the difficult roommate who didn’t know how to share a living space.

Well, turned out that I was not “always wrong”; I was simply a people-pleaser.

I would go out of my way for a boyfriend who wouldn’t do the same, then get resentful for not feeling loved.

I would say anything to not upset my friend, but would act the opposite way because I didn’t mean what I said.

And I would avoid upsetting my roommate because I didn’t want to deal with uncontrolled anger and gaslighting.

As much as I always valued accountability, my behaviours reflected everything but taking accountability. I just thought I was not good enough and should always be the one changing for other people. Wrong.

I just was surrounded with people which whom I couldn’t be myself, nor get my needs met.

That’s only when I recognized this fact, after A LOT of self growth work, that I learned it was okay to walk away.

What’s your story?

If you’re here, like me, your life might not always feel authentic. You might find yourself drained after some interactions.

You might find you’re changing to fit in, to be accepted.

So you might not be able to totally be yourself.

In fact, you might not even know who you are anymore… and might need to find yourself again.

Well, you’ve come to the right place. These journal prompts for self growth will help. A LOT.
